Retro Roundup, Volume 3

Tikiphiles take note: Clifton’s Pacific Seas is opening soon. I can’t wait for the crowds to die down so I can visit.

If you adore Marilyn Monroe (and have very deep pockets), you’re in luck: on November 19-20, Julien’s is having a BIG auction. Everything from a prescription pill bottle to the “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress is going on the auction block. Three private collections are represented, including that of Marilyn’s acting coach, Lee Strasberg.

Speaking of auctions…Van Eaton Galleries is having their THIRD Disneyland auction, live and online, also on November 19. I’ve been poring over the online auction catalog, and was amused to discover that a few of the auction lots are identical (or at least very similar) to items I own. I’m already planning to stop by Van Eaton just so I can drool over attraction props that cost more than my car is worth.

The Smithsonian raised enough money to save Dorothy’s ruby slippers…now they need some help restoring the Scarecrow’s delicate costume.

And just in time for Halloween…the long-lost, uncut trailer for Son of Frankenstein has been rediscovered.
