Walt Disney World: Ephemera from 1971

Walt Disney World: Ephemera from 1971

Recently, a family friend decided to downsize and cleared out her house. She found a shoebox full of Walt Disney World and Disneyland ephemera, most of it from a family trip in December 1971.

She remembered that I love Disney. I especially love vintage Disney.

I’ve never been an ephemera collector. I normally toss paper items in the recycling bin as soon as I’m done with them. But most of this stuff is from Walt Disney World’s first holiday season. I’ve never seen anything like this before, and am sharing these pictures so other Disney fans can see them too.

Opening October 1971! (And the colors on this brochure are still bright and sharp!)

This stuff from the Polynesian is going to look great framed in my tiki room.

This stuff from the Polynesian Village Resort is going to look great framed in my tiki room. I can’t afford to actually STAY at the Polynesian, but it’s the coolest hotel I’ve ever seen.

I don't know the story behind this piece, but it'll go with my shareholder certificate!

I'm told this is a reproduction, circa 2012, of the Magic Kingdom maps sold in the early '70s.

Apparently Walt Disney World changed phone numbers sometime in 1971 or 1972. I wonder how long Disneyland has had the same phone number?

I have other items, but have omitted them from this post to keep it a reasonable length. If you’d like to see the rest of my pictures, including close-ups of the reproduction 1971 map, visit my Flickr album. (I may post some of these items for sale; contact me if interested.)

I will be posting the vintage Disneyland items, circa 1964, in a separate entry.
